Our purpose is to support the voice and leadership of disabled people, tāngata whaikaha Māori, families and whānau to live their good lives through assisting improvement in disability service provision. To further this we offer connection to resources and learning through this website.
Our work is guided by our three Pou: Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the vision and principles of Enabling Good Lives and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the founding document of New Zealand. The Preamble sets out the purpose of the Treaty: to protect Mäori rights and taonga, keep peace and order, and establish government. For us it means that we look to work in partnership with Māori in supporting tāngata whaikaha Māori and disabled people.
That disabled people and their whānau have increased choice and control in their lives and their support.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is an agreement between many countries about how to protect the rights of disabled people. We want to use this to make life better for disabled people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
